Beaches

If you are a beach lover, Streaky Bay District has something special for you. From the calm water of Streaky Bay Aquatic Reserve to the surf breaks at Yanerbie beach, you can find a variety of beach experiences.

The white sandy shores of Sheringa beach are perfect for swimming, fishing, and occasionally surfing. You might spot humpback whales and southern right whales breaching the surface during June to October at the back of this beach.

Surrounding Islands

Streaky Bay is in proximity to a number of islands that are worth visiting. The Jewell cave at Point Labatt Conservation Park is an impressive limestone cave home to thousands of fur seals. Almonta Island is another popular spot, recognized for its boat and fishing tours and magical snorkelling experiences.

Fishing

Streaky Bay District is known for its outstanding fishing. The jetty, located in the centre of town, is an excellent fishing spot for beginner and experienced anglers. You might catch a wide variety of fish, including whiting, garfish, salmon, and even sharks.

National Parks

Exploring the National Parks near the Streaky Bay District is a must. Murphys Haystacks, a unique formation of granite rocks, are an hour and a half drive from Streaky Bay. It's a popular spot to take photos to post on your social media account.

The Gawler Ranges National Park offers stunning views of the Australian Outback. After arriving at Mt. Ive Homestead, the visitor’s centre, you can embark on a five-hour scenic drive through the park. The park is also home to different wildlife species unique to the Australian Outback.

Wildlife

Streaky Bay District is not only a beach lover’s paradise but also an animal lover’s dream destination. Nearby Seal Bay is home to large colonies of New Zealand Fur Seals.

The Mikkira Station is home to wild koalas living in their natural habitat. If you have got the opportunity, do not forget to watch the sea lions in action at Point Labatt Conservation Park.
